Holy Crap!! ZOMBIES!!!! (Part 1)

Hi. My name is Saphire. I am 15. I know, it is a kind of girly name for a tom-boy. Anyway, I knew how to shoot a rifle at the age of 6. Why my dad taught me, he was teaching me to hunt, but the fact that I can shoot has kept me alive. Why?, you ask, because I have survived a zombie apocalypse for 3 months now. Me and my boyfriend, Jackson, had run away from home before the zombie apocalypse occurred. We left and went to my favorite beach, Topsail Island,NC. Jackson had been rich, he isn't now because, obviously, everyone is dead or a zombie. Where we live is funny, but awesome because zombies can't swim, which we found out on the first day of the apocalypse. Me and Jackson had been swimming, but we couldn't go too far out cause there was a boat in our way, and all of a sudden a woman bit this dude on the leg and he started spazaming. She looked sick, to me.
We live in that boat. Turns out the guy who owned it was at the Dairy Queen when the apocalypse came around. When we got on the boat to get farther away from the zombies, I found 10 guns. Five were rifles and the other five were hand guns. I took one of the rifles and shot the woman zombie. She fell to the ground but started to get back up, so, I shot her again and she fell and didn't get back up. That is when I knew the apocalypse had come. I looked at Jackson, he was so shocked he passed out for five minutes. " How can you do that? You never told me you could shoot a gun," he asked me when he woke up. I asked him "You know the first time we kissed?," and he said, "Yeah, why?" That is when I told him that when we had our first kiss, I had a gun strapped to the inside of my boot "Just in case he does something stupid," my dad had told me before Jackson came to pick me up.
"So you were going to shoot me!?," he asked. I just smiled at him. I had not told him about me being able to shoot. "No I wasn't going to shoot you unless you tried to do something stupid."
After that he said that he would only trust me if I promised not to shoot him. I said " Why would I shoot you now, you are my boyfriend and I just didn't want to go that fast with someone I didn't know." He said " Well, okay but would you go that fast now that you know me." "Maybe. Maybe not," I said. "I'll keep that in mind," said Jackson.
Ok, so we have some discussions but we are still in a zombie apocalypse here. All of a sudden, Jackson's voice snapped me back to reality. " Hey, don't you think today is the day to go get food," He says. "Yeah," I said. Then, we started getting our guns together. "Hey, do you know how to shoot?" I asked.
"No" said Jackson. "Hey were you expecting company," I asked while looking at a green Jeep coming towards our boat on the shore. "Ummmmmm, no. You?," said Jackson. "Get down." I said. The Jeep came to a stop in front of our boat. Two people got out. One was a girl, she was black and there was a boy with her, he was white. The boy triped on his shoe laces and the girl laughed for a minute then became serious again. "Get your butt up, you stupid moron," said the girl. The boy got up, he looked at the boat and said "Do you think anyone lives there." The girl said something about the zombies not being able to swim.   Then, they started walking up to the boat. I got my rifle ready very quietly, and then got up real fast and pointed the gun at them as they got on the boat. "Hey, is that a 22-caliber pistol," said the boy as he pointed to the gun strapped to my leg. "Yeah, what are your names. Are you friend or do I get to shoot someone today." I said. "My name is Aaron and this is Claire." He said as he pointed to the black girl. "You still didn't answer my other question," I said.
     "We are friends," said Aaron.
"Ok," I said, "But why are you here." I was so confused at that point. My boyfriend had his gun in his hand, even though I was still teaching him to shoot. Aaron said, "We found out that zombies can't swim, and, so, we were going to search for a boat that we could live in. We also found out that if water touches them, they turn to dust." I looked at Jackson and we exchanged glances at each other. I turned back to Aaron and Claire. "Hey, since we are all friends here can you put the gun down and give us some food, we are starving. We haven't eaten in three days," Claire said.
"Wow! She can talk," I said.
Jackson said, "Come on we have some hot dogs on the grill." I lowered my rifle as we walked over to the grill, which was practically a bowl on a stool full of hot coal, which had hot dogs that were ready to be eaten.
"Wait," Aaron was speaking after ten minutes of just looking at me and Jackson's rifles, "How do you keep them refrigerated, all the power is off."
"I actually listened in class, unlike Jackson here, and learned that each bank has a back-up generator that has to be activated if the power goes off but when the apocalypse happened no one was worrying about back-up generators and keeping the power on, they were worrying about not becoming zombies, obviously," I said.
Aaron was speaking again. "Wow! Even I didn't know that and I already know all the names of the controls on a fire truck, and know what they do." Now Claire was speaking, "So you are a brainiac like Aaron, here." She said as she pointed to Aaron as he leaned down to touch my 22-caliber pistol that was strapped to my leg. I slapped his hand as he reached out to touch the pistol. "Ow! Why did you do that."
"Be careful," Jackson said as we sat down to eat our hot dogs, " she'll shoot you."
"No she won't..." said Aaron, "Will she?"
"Trust me... she will." Jackson said. I just sat there and smiled at Aaron. Jackson looked satisfied, as I leaned against his shoulder.
Claire was the next to speak. "So, are you two..., you know, together?"
Happily I stood up and said "Yes..., do any of you want some custard?"
"Wait you have custard, too. Where?" Asked Aaron. I was looking at the shore of the beach, it was a nice day to go swimming, and all of a sudden I smelled something. It smelled like a pile of rotten tomatoes. I reached for the pistol strapped to my leg very slowly. Jackson walked over to me and said "What is the matter? Why are you reaching for your gun?"
I said “I can smell something coming.”
“What,” Jackson was confused, “How can you smell something coming?”
“I don’t know, I just can.” I said. Just as I said that, I could see a little animal-like creature coming towards us but it was sniffing the ground. And as I watched it, the zombies didn't seem to have any interest in it, the zombies just looked at it for a second and then carried on doing whatever they were doing. I had to go see what it was.“I’m going to go see what it is. Cover me?”
"Ok, but promise me you won’t get hurt,” Jackson said.
"Okay, ok, come on." I said as I was making my way to the ladder of the boat. As I got down, my feet splashed in the water. Uh oh, the zombies heard the noise and came running to the edge of the water.
"Hand me the bucket, Jackson." I said. I was going to put water on them. Then, while Jackson was finding the bucket, I was thinking about how cool it would be if the water level rose and touched their feet. That way they would turn to dust. Right after I thought that the water did just that... The zombies turned to dust right when Jackson was handing me the bucket. He wasn't looking at me when they turned to dust, so he saw them.
"Who made the water rise? High tide is for five more hours." Jackson said.
"Don't laugh at me, but I think I did it. Right before the water rose I was thinking about how cool it would be for the water to rise and turn them to dust," I said. Jackson's mouth fell open. Claire and Aaron came over.
"Sooner later a fly is going to sail his boat right into your mouth if you don't close it." Claire said to Jackson, then she looked at me and started talking. "Hey, do you really think you did that? Cause if you did we can go where ever we want and not have to think about getting eaten by zombies."
I stepped off of the ladder and started walking towards the shore. I stopped when I saw another zombie standing right in front of me, I'm exaggerating the zombie was like 10 feet in front of me, but to where he couldn't get to me. Jackson came up to me and said, "What are you doing? We need to figure out why you have this kind of power, or whatever it is, before we go out there."
"That's what I'm doing, stupid," I said. He backed up a little so that I could do what I was going to do. "I'm going to see if I can make him our friend." I said.
I stood there for a few seconds just looking at the zombie. Then, I thought it was time I tried to use my power to get him to be nice. I closed my eyes and thought that it would be cool if this zombie would do whatever I wanted it to do, when I wanted it to do it. I opened my eyes.
He looked at me for a second, then I closed my eyes and thought that, only the zombies that I make my friends, could go in the water without turning to dust. I opened my eyes again.
He was still looking at me. "Sit down with your feet in the water." I said.
The zombie did just that. Then I yelled at Claire and Aaron. "Hey, you guys, get your butts off that boat. NOW!" They started to tell me to be quiet but stopped when they saw the zombie sitting in front of me in the water and not turning to dust. They did what I said and got off the boat but Claire stood with Jackson when they got to me and him. Aaron came over to me but was very hesitant about it because five more zombies had came over cause of me yelling. When he finally stayed beside me, he asked, "How did you do that? Can I touch him?," as he reached down to touch the zombie.
"Actually, hold on, I wouldn't do that." I said. Then, I closed my eyes and wished that all the zombies, that are my friends, will be my human friends' friends. I opened my eyes and the zombie was saying hello to all my friends. Aaron was examing the zombie. Claire was being skeptical and Jackson said hello back and came over to me.
"Hey, what else can you do?" He asked. I just looked at him and shrugged. “Well, I thought that, whatever you did, was amazing. I just… I…” I leaned up and kissed him right then to get him to shut his mouth.
“Why’d you do that?” he asked after, like, three minutes of me and him kissing.
“To get you to shut up,” I said, “and because I just felt like it.”
“Can you feel like it more often?” he asked.
I was still aware of the crowd of zombies that was still standing behind us. “Maybe, but you have to promise not to take it too far.” I said.
For the first time in, I don’t know, maybe forever, Claire’s voice snapped both of us back to reality. “Hey, would you stop romancing over there, and turn all those zombies into a zombie like this one.” She said as she pointed to the zombie that I just made our friend.
“Okay, Okay I will.” I said as I turned to the zombies. I closed my eyes. In my head I wished that all the zombies that stood in front of me to be me and my friends’ friends, and can walk in water without turning to dust. I opened my eyes. “all of you sit down with your feet in the water.” I said to the zombies that were staring at me. They all sat down with their feet in the water. “Now, you can go say hello to my friends over their.”
“I’m going to go see what that creature was, OKAY!” I said very loudly, but not loudly enough for any other zombies to hear. As I went, Jackson ended coming with me, I could sence the creature. The closer I got, the stronger its smell got. We finally got to where the smell was the strongest. I looked around to see what and where the creature was. I looked towards a box, and the smell hit me like a punch straight to the face. I proceded to the box with caution. I also had my gun in my hand, so that was helpful, in a situation where the creature tries to kill us. I looked in the box, because it was flipped on its side so it looked like a little shelter and let no water or rain in it. The creature looked up at me, and I swear it smiled at my presence…
The creature that I had seen was a little, baby pitbull. “Hey, little guy. It’s ok, we won’t hurt you.” I said as I reached out to pick up the baby pitbull. Jackson had told me, before we came to look for the creature, that if the creature was nice, that it could be mine. So, now that I knew it was a pitbull, it was going to be my pet no matter what anybody said. I picked up the baby and it curled up in my arms even though he was the size of a guinea pig. I had handed my gun to Jackson and was talking to the dog while we made our trip back to the boat. “I’m going to call you… Athena because you look very ferocious and you have a lot of puppy-love power in you. Athena was the great female God of love and war, see you are a lot like her.” As we reached the shore of the beach, the zombies made a path for me and Jackson as we walked to the boat while I was rocking Athena in my arms.
Athena was a baby, female pitbull. She is white with a light, light brown spots around her eyes. Her eyes are light blue. I closed my eyes after we, me and Jackson, were back on the boat. I wished that Athena could not get hurt or have any illness.
I opened my eyes. "Hey, zombies. Stand around the boat and protect us. The sun was setting. It was a pinkish-purple color with...a little bit of red infused in it? I don't know but all I can say is that it is pretty. I looked down at Athena. She was looking at me, because when I told the zombies to guard the boat, I had woken her up from her nap. Something was very different about her from when I picked her up out of the cardboard box. Or was I hilucinating? No, no, I was not hilucinating, her left eye was rainbow! "Hey, Jackson. I need your opinion on something." When he got over to me, I said, "Hey does her left eye look rainbow to you?"
"Ummmmm, yes, actually it does and..." As he looked up at me his facial expression changed from being, examing to..., I don't know, concerned maybe? "Um, Saphire. Your eye is rainbow, too. Wow, how is that even possible?"
"Are you sure? Is it really?" I asked.
"Yeah it is but..., I think it makes you look cute. You know, having the same color eye as your pet and all. Did you use your power to do something to Athena?" He said, as he picked up Athena out of my arms.
"Ummmm..., actually I did. Do you think it's because of me using my power on Athena?" I said as I got up and walked around. Jackson shrugged.
“I don’t know but I think it makes you look cuter. You know, having the same eye color as your new pet and all. Does it hurt?” he asked.
“No, not really. Why?” I said. I looked at him for a while before he said anything. He was sooo cute. He made me smile, even on the days that I didn’t want to smile. He loved me, and I loved him, but sometimes I didn’t know why he stayed with me. He wasn’t going to let anything happen to me, I could see it in his eyes. He was so protective over me, even after we had run away. He handed Athena back to me.
“Well, if it doesn’t hurt… it is nothing to worry about that much right now. For all we know, it could be some kind of bond or special marker for something.” Jackson had finally spoken after about three minutes. Claire and Aaron walked over and I could just see the shock on their faces as they looked at my eye.
“Why is your eye r…r…rainbow?” Claire asked. Aaron had walked up to me and got so close to my face, that I couldn’t see Claire in my line of sight.
“WOW!!!!!!!!! That is soooooooooooo cool. I have never seen anything like it. HER IRIS IS ACTUALLY RAINBOW!!!” Aaron said. He kept looking at my eye even after he was done talking. I shoved him out of the way because he was just making me angry, now.
“I think it is time we go to bed. Me and Jackson will sleep up here on the top of the boat. Claire, Aaron, you will be sleeping in here.” I said as I showed them to a room that was on the bottom floor of the boat. There were two sleeping bags, on the floor, that were already made up. Claire and Aaron picked their sleeping bags, and me and Jackson walked back up the stairs to the top of the boat. We were going to share a bed for the night. We walked in another room, where the bed was, and I laid down immediately. Jackson laid down a couple of minutes later. I was on my side and Jackson snuggled up next to me. I turned over to face him. I kissed him and he didn’t try to push it any farther. When we stopped he said, “What is the matter? I can tell that something is bothering you.”
“I don’t know, I just don’t… I just don’t feel like usual.” I snuggled up against him. He just put his arms around me, and I ended up falling asleep a few minutes later. The next day, me and Jackson were still in the bed and I woke up. I looked at him. He was awake and smiled at me. “Did you sleep good last night?” I asked.
“No, actually I watched you sleep. If you think that’s creepy, I’m sorry, but you looked so cute and I wasn’t that tired. How did you sleep last night?” He asked so nicely.
“Number one, I don’t think that is creepy. It actually makes me feel a little safer. Number two, I slept really good last night. Number three…” Right after I said three he kissed me. I was hesitant for a second, but kissed him back a few seconds later.
We sat there for a while, when we were done kissing, until we heard a gun go off. Me and Jackson got up immediately and ran outside to the sight of Claire and Aaron shooting, like, ten-maybe twenty zombies that were standing on the shore. They had killed at least five and maybe ten, from what I could see, had walked into the water and turned themselves to dust. I looked around and found Athena laying in the corner under the table. I went over to Athena and picked her up. I closed my eyes and wished that I had a harness and red leash to put Athena in. I also wished that I had a doggie-bed that I could put in the room that me and Jackson sleep in. I opened my eyes and the gun shooting had stopped. I looked on the table and there was a doggie-bed, a red leash, and a harness. I put the doggie-bed in me and Jackson's room on the floor. It was night time. The day had gone by so fast. Me and Jackson went to sleep.
