Our Independence Day

The tensions were rising, it was the final play of the game. I could feel like my heart was going to pound out of my chest. As I snapped the ball it seemed like everything went into slow motion. I looked right and saw my star receiver wide open in the end zone, as soon as I tried to shift my arm forward to throw the ball...it slipped. As I turned to give chase it was already too late, the other team recovered and just like that the game was over. We lost state championship and it was all because of me. After the game I was a lost for words, I still couldn't believe what just happened. When my girlfriend came to pick me up, she tried to cheer me up but there was no point in even trying. We went to a pizza restruant where the team usually went after every game. When I walked In I was surprised to see everyone trying to cheer me up, which actually really helped me. Of course all the regular people we there like my closest friends, Michael and josh, my girlfriends sister but basically everyone from the team. But there was one surprise I couldn't believe, my brother Jacob was back from being stationed in Iraq. When we saw each other , we quickly did our handshake. After about an hour of listening to jacob's dangerous missions, the power just shut off and when we looked out of the windows we learned that the whole towns power was also shut off. It was pretty unusual but at the time we didn't really pay attention. So I caught a ride home with Jacob. Nobody had any idea of what was about to come. The next morning I woke up from the shaking of the house and I quickly woke up Jacob. We rushed outside to see what was all the noise and shaking was about. When I looked up I couldn't believe my eyes, it was like I was in the middle of the Normandy invasion. Huge planes filled the clear blue sky with paratroopers jumping from them, black smoke was exploding from the cannons of anti-aircraft guns. One of the planes got hit and came falling toward us, we took cover behind Jacob's truck right before one of the wings exploded into our neighbors house. We both had one thing on our mind and that was to find dad. Since our dad was police chief, he was out all night trying to find out why the power went out. As we were about to get into the truck to find him, his car came rushing towards us. He got out and told us to head towards a cabin where some extra weapons were kept for the police force up in the woods about 8 miles from here. As we were in the car I told Jacob "we have to go get Claudia!!" (my girlfriend). We were going 50mph around every corner we turned. The paratroopers weren't too far from the ground...we were running out of time. We were a block away, when one of the paratroopers started rapid firing at us. Luckily he was low enough to the ground where we could hit him with the truck.When I saw Claudia's house she was already handcuffed by the invaders, when I finally got a close up they looked like they were from some Asian based country. I yelled out at Claudia but the soldiers quickly turned around and started firing right at us. Josh and Michael were hiding behind the side Claudia's house. I yelled for them to get into the back of the truck. Michael barely got in before we sped off to the cabin. When we got there, we went straight to the weapon storage out back. There was enough weapons and ammunition for a whole army. But we all agreed to start packing all of it because it was only a matter of time before the invaders discovered the cabin. There was an old tv in the living room of the cabin, we tried to turn to every channel possible but there was nothing but static. We all started to look for some kind of communication device. We eventually found a radio but yet there was nothing but static. All of us agreed to stay for one night and everybody had to take watch every 2 hours. It was Josh's turn first. I woke up to the sound of a cracking bullet from outside. I rushed outside with a AK fully loaded and with my finger at the trigger. I saw that it was Claudia's car but I looked to see that it was her sister at the wheel Meghan ( Claudia's sister). When Jacob realized it was Meghan he quickly helped out of the car to see if the bullet had hit or scraped her side. Luckily no wound. All of us new the invaders heard the sound of the bullet. It was only a matter of time before they were here. We grabbed anything that could be used as a weapon. We gathered all of the guns and amunition that we packed. We also took all the food and water we could pack. We could here the roaring engines of a convoy. We sprinted as fast as we could to the edge of the woods. When we got to an empty river bed far enough out of sight, Jacob suddenly stopped us. He said "we have to turn back and see who these people are"
